Well now, that would depend on the operating system wouldn't it.
Not a very Java oriented thing to worry about.
I expect you can do it for which ever system that YOU are chaining yourself to, but it might take a JNI interface.

DOH!! Don't kill me heh...Yer right, I was just thinking in MS windows terms. And believe me, I am NOT an MS Biggot. I just wrote a little app for a helpdesk that sends alerts for downed systems and such and someone asked if I could put something in the system tray.
I thought I'd check into it for them, but now that you mention it, I don't want to chain myself (or the app) to any OS...my brain was on vacation!!
1,000 pardons...
Thanx though...

No problem. Didn't mean to sound like I was jumping on you.
But glad to see that you are maintaining your neutrality .

No problem,
I seem to ask the type of questions that get that sort of response though.
I just posted another question in the Swing forum about a Window and how to give it an "always on top" type function.
The reply I got basically made me feel like an ID10T with a sort of "Why the hell would ya wanna do that" attitude. So I explained why, and I thinks its a good reason.
Any, I hope i get an answer...but if this keeps up, we're gonna need a "Rants" forum on JavaRanch
