Today I read a scary article on BBC.
Police appeal to missing girl

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/england/manchester/3070191.stm

I was thinking of this situation and some ideas popped up in my mind.
1. What if every (Yahoo/Hotmail) messangers have two sections? One for paid registered users where they have to declare at least basic identity to generate a user id and one for unregistered users. Whenever someone wants to go for chatting it's his/her choice to chat with registered users with known identity (less risk) or unregistered users with unknown identity (highest risk). Whenver a user willing to chat looks for the profile he/she knows it's a registered or unregistered user.
By this way it's at least easy to guide children that chat with paid registered users only. As you can't block kids to use internet.
2. Based on the words used in the id created by a user a status of user updated with SAFE, RISKEY, HIGHEST RISKY etc. user which is flased when someone views the profile or is displayed during the chat session maybe in a bracket.
3. While setting the messanger for kids, Parents/Cybercafe people can create a password protected log file that logs all the chat sessions.

What do you think guys will be the best way to stop these kind of incidents? Pour this thread with your possible suggestions / solutions.

This won't be bullet-proof, as some weird-o could 'borrow' a kid's profile to use.

How about a server end program processing all text and update the visible status of chatter?
A simple match of all possible messages might do the trick.

you are missing the point.
Chat Services cant provide authetication of a user.
And it was the girl who told that she was 19yrs old.
How do you think, you are planning to catch this fake age of little 12 yr old girl ??
AW Yahoo provides mechnism to log all the chatting, but if parents would like to view the log then teen-ager will raise the question of his/her freedom. And more over s/he will manipulate the log also.
I think parents should spend more and more time with their kids so they do not need third person to tell there stories.
Technology wise .. I dont think its possible to stop such happenings

Hi Ravish Kumar,

And it was the girl who told that she was 19yrs old.

Well I agree to your point Ravish Kumar. But let's see it other way round, just assume if the girl somehow knows that the person she is chatting with is considered to be risky. She would not have continued the chatting. Now let's assume he is using a uniqe id to chat with this girl only then he will never go as a registered user. If he is obsessed he will use multiple unique ids to do the chatting and maybe he has only one or two authorized ids.
Well as a human being I know nothing is impossible in this world. So if some AI guy able to trace all possible patterns he can design a software that updates the status of an id immediately.

How do you think, you are planning to catch this fake age of little 12 yr old girl ??

Catching the girl is not the problem, catching the guy is important.

AW Yahoo provides mechnism to log all the chatting, but if parents would like to view the log then teen-ager will raise the question of his/her freedom. And more over s/he will manipulate the log also.

That's why I was talking about the password protected log file.

I think parents should spend more and more time with their kids so they do not need third person to tell there stories.

Well most of the schools now a days have parent teacher meet. Maybe that's a good idea to teach the parents to monitor kids internet time and logs.

Technology wise .. I dont think its possible to stop such happenings

I agree to this point also. But again if AI can be developed by humans there is a solution to this problem also.

I dont see any fault of that guy..
the only fault is that he, as an elder, should have not allowed that girl to come with him.
But i think that girl must have insisted to come with him.

Hi Ravish Kumar,
Pura Naam Ravish Kumar Singh, Baap Ka Naam Mahendra Pratap Singh
Full name is Ravish Kumar Singh, father's name is Mahendra Pratap Singh
the girl somehow knows that the person she is chatting with is considered to be risky. She would not have continued the chatting.
Atleast in this case girl was ready to take all risks for day out.
If any child wants to take this precaution, he will always tell its parents. And I think all parents should know where their children are going and with whom they meet.
So if some AI guy able to trace all possible patterns he can design a software that updates the status of an id immediately.
It can be done, then the guy wont use that service or s/w can be made fool anytime

How do you think, you are planning to catch this fake age of little 12 yr old girl ??

Catching the girl is not the problem, catching the guy is important.
I was talking to catch the "fake age" of girl. Neither to catch guy nor gal.
That's why I was talking about the password protected log file.
I think, it wont help. Kids are smart enough these days to disable any feature of chat app.
Well most of the schools now a days have parent teacher meet. Maybe that's a good idea to teach the parents to monitor kids internet time and logs.
OR/AND educate child itself what is good and what is bad for him/her.
I agree to this point also. But again if AI can be developed by humans there is a solution to this problem also.
21st centuary Yaar, kids are much smarter now and much aware of technology than our days.
I think we should try to solve this problem psychologically rather than technically.
