I have a question on where to put jar that we need to use. I heard that in jdk1.3, you don't have to explicitly put the jar in classpath but just in jdk1.3\jre\lib is enough. Is that the case usually? Why doesn't it work for me then?
Please help.

Hi Cameron.
It is correct that you may use the jdk1.3/jre/lib/ext directory - this will install the JAR as an 'installed extension'. However, this is not the way that Sun meant this feature to be used. This is for standard extensions to the Java API and not for 'user code'. Believe me, it will cause you problems in the future. It is ALWAYS best to explicitly specify required classes in the classpath. Where possible this should be a 'runtime_independant' classpath too, and not the system classpath. Just build a batch file that sets this before running your code.
Cheers,
Matt.
