Mary_jane,
Welcome to JavaRanch!
We ain't got many rules 'round these parts, but we do got one. Please change your display name to comply with The JavaRanch Naming Policy.
Also, please note that you can preserve the formatting of example code by surrounding it with the
and
UBB Tags.
Thanks Pardner! Hope to see you 'round the Ranch!

What are your doubts? What do you think it does? What does it do when you try it?

What's that class List, it is not java.util.List because that is abstract and cannot be instantated (there's new List in there).
What happens when you compile the code?
What happens when you run the code?
With a debugger?
Try using BlueJ available here it will help you gain an insight.
Tell us what happens.
