I have Windows XP Pro but did you try:
Click 'Start'; rightClick MyComputer; select 'Properties" from the popupMenu; select the 'Advanced' tab from the popupWindow; select 'Environment Variables' commandButton; select 'CLASSPATH' from the 'System variables' listBox at the bottom; click the 'Edit' commandButton and paste your path in the 'Variable value: textBox or if you don't have a CLASSPATH Variable name click the 'New' commandButton and type "CLASSPATH" in the Variable name: textBox the add your path; click OK.
Should look something like this:
CLASSPATH
C:\javaProjects\JavaRanchCommon.zip;C:\j2sdk1.4.1_02\LIB;.;C:\javaProjects

I don't think that works in ME doco. I'm pretty sure you need to set the CLASSPATH in the autoexec.bat file for all non-NT Windows platforms. You should be able to do that from msconfig. (I'm doing this from memory so it may not be exactly right) Select Start->Run and type msconfig in the text area and press OK. A tabbed dialog should come up and there should be a tab for autoexec.bat which you should select. On a new line enter: SET CLASSPATH=myClassPath replacing myClassPath with the actual CLASSPATH. Remember to delimit the various directories with a ; semicolon. Press Apply (or whatever the msconfig dialog indicates) and reboot the machine. Your CLASSPATH should be set.
