Is there any way to disbribute a java appliation with its own jre and have it installed without affecting the users current JRE? I am just concerned that software I am distributing on CD could have problems with future versions of the JRE.

I think you can force your application to run the jre by sepcified the path.
Let's say you have 2 version:
c:\program files\jre1.4_1
c:\program files\<your app>\jre1.3
I believe you can explicitly invoke the 2nd jre by call java command with specific path: c:\program files\<your app>\jre1.3\bin\java myApp.jar.
However, I don't know if Sun allows this type of distribution. (Just being a bit cautious.)
