I thought it was me. I have wondered about this cartoon myself lately.

If anyone can explain this to me please do. What does it mean or stand for?

It's basically just a nonsense phrase from an old comic strip called "Smokey Stover," about a nutty fireman. I've heard that it means "Merry Christmas" in Gaelic, but I'm not sure if someone wasn't just pulling my leg.

Smokey had a fire engine called the "Foomobile".

Merry Christmas in Irish Gaelic: "Nollaig Shona" (NO-Lihg HO-nuh) The more usual phase is, "Nollaig Shona Duit" (NO-Lihg HO-nuh ghwich), "Have a Merry Christmas."
