Hi all,
Please forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this question. Any way I just wanted to get the email addresses of James Gosling and other top people of Sun Micro Systems. I want to contact them just to get advice to form a association related to Java.
Thank you in advance....

You'd probably do better just sending an email to Sun's public interface, especially rather than posting here. Most of the questions in this beginning forum are beginning programming problems, and you must be somewhat beyond the beginner stage if you are planning on starting an association.

Good luck with it anyway!

I assume your question is sincere.

If you really want to contact Jim Gosling or other Sun big shots, you can send a paper mail letter to:
Sun Microsystems, Inc.
4150 Network Circle
Santa Clara, CA 95054

However, they get a lot of mail and may not be able to reply in any detail.

First, you should consider what kind of group you want to form.
Second, research what groups exist that may meet your needs. Use JavaRanch, google, etc.
Third, if you still think a new group is needed, your library has books on forming a voluntary organization from scratch (it's not easy).
Perhaps the powers that be here and on Sun's web site will let you announce your group. There are many other ways to get members.

Keep in mind, an organization takes a LOT of work. Can you handle it?

Thanks a lot for the replies. Then again how to post it to the suns' public interface. i have no idea what you are talking about. Yes I know this is for the beginers and that's why I started saying 'forgive me for posting this'. I tried to search and couldn't get. That is why I posted it here.
Thank you very much for your valuable time.

What I meant by a public interface is either a mailing address like the one above (probably your best option) or one of the contact options at Sun's Contact Page that are for use by the general public. To be honest, unless you are involved with a large company and are planning on starting a huge organisation, then either a general inquiry at Sun or asking someone here at JavaRanch should be able to give you all the information you need. You are right about the forum, although this post doesn't really fit in here, there is nowhere else that it could really go either.

Good luck if you go ahead with it

"Java in General (beginner)" is a board.

Sun has boards for developers, etc.

Please explore sun.com and java.sun.com, including the "contacts" link mentioned above. Come back if you have any questions.

Hi there...

Check the bottom of this page for James' personal email address. Again, from what I know of the good people at Sun, this is his publicly available address akin to bill@microsoft.com, so he probably gets hundreds if not thousands of non-spam email per day and likely can't respond to it all. (Then again, this reminds of a story one of my high school buddies told me about taking the intro Chemistry course at U of I. It was taught by Stephen Zumdahl, the guy who literally wrote the book on chemistry, and he offered two times per week he held office hours and was available to his 3 1500-person intro chem courses. My friend soon had several questions but put off seeing him for weeks, figuring that he'd have to wait in line a mile long, given that he taught 4500 students in his intro chem courses alone. Finally, when he had an entire afternoon free, he went in and was shocked to discover that he was the first student to come to Zumdahl's office hours without being personally invited in over 5 years.)

Anyway, before I sign off this message, I have to ask--and I'm not trying to be disrespectful or mean--are you sure you are really up for organizing and administering a group as you suggest? All I had to do to find Mr. Gosling's email address was type "email james gosling" into google, so if you didn't try that before posting to the Beginning Java Questions forum here...I'm thinking you're either too busy or don't care enough to run such a group.

If I'm wrong, one option you might want to consider is joining your local JUG, or forming one if you think there's enough demand in your area and one doesn't already exist.

sev

the public addresses of people like James Gossling and Bill Gates are likely not managed directly by them but by their staff who will decide which messages are interesting and important enough to forward to the real address and handle the rest themselves.

Who are you anyway that your project is so important that you need direct contact with the big bosses at Sun for it?
Everyone else handles things through the Sun PR or marketing departments who may at their discretion put you in contact with these people if needed.
