Hi there...
Check the bottom of
this page for James' personal email address. Again, from what I know of the good people at Sun, this is his publicly available address akin to
bill@microsoft.com, so he probably gets hundreds if not thousands of non-spam email per day and likely can't respond to it all. (Then again, this reminds of a story one of my high school buddies told me about taking the intro Chemistry course at U of I. It was taught by Stephen Zumdahl, the guy who literally wrote the book on chemistry, and he offered two times per week he held office hours and was available to his 3 1500-person intro chem courses. My friend soon had several questions but put off seeing him for weeks, figuring that he'd have to wait in line a mile long, given that he taught 4500 students in his intro chem courses alone. Finally, when he had an entire afternoon free, he went in and was shocked to discover that he was the first student to come to Zumdahl's office hours without being personally invited in over 5 years.)
Anyway, before I sign off this message, I have to ask--and I'm not trying to be disrespectful or mean--are you sure you are really up for organizing and administering a group as you suggest? All I had to do to find Mr. Gosling's email address was type "email james gosling" into google, so if you didn't try that before posting to the Beginning Java Questions forum here...I'm thinking you're either too busy or don't care enough to run such a group.
If I'm wrong, one option you might want to consider is
joining your local JUG, or forming one if you think there's enough demand in your area and one doesn't already exist.
