I have just got this error which I haven't seen before and am not sure what is wrong with my code.

It compiles OK but when I run it I get a fatal exception...

java.lang.VerifyError: (class: xxx, method: yyy signature: ([Ljava/lang/String;) [[Ljava/lang/String;) Incompatible types for storing into array of arrays or objects.

The method is public String[] yyy (String zzz){code}

It appears to happening as the class xxx is being instantiated.

Can anyone give me any pointers?

Perhaps you could give us a little more of your code?

The error appears to state that you are somehow trying to create arrays of arrays i.e. String[][] rather than String[]

This is likely to be either a compiler bug or a JVM bug -- what Java implementation are you using?

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
