Do you think foxes are cute ? Do we really respect them for what they are -wild animals.
You may have heard of Mr Todd who came to town and started snacking on the face of a 14 weeks' old baby. Happily the baby survived. But the father threatening to kill the vermin was warned off by te RSPCA. An animal welfare expert was wheeled on the Today programme to explain that the foxes behaviour was typical of the species. This particular fox must have been suffering from some kind of mental crisis - brain damage or possible concussion.
Oh yeah!
Since the Animal Rights activists started bombing and burning research centres where experiments were done on animals , and throwing acid on models modelling clothes that would have caused pain to animals have we gone overboard in protecting animal rights.
Now rats who are rather sweet and far more intelligent mammals hardly get a look into as far as animal rights are concerned.
Are we too enthralled and have we deluded ourselves that animals are nice ?
OR can we expect 'pschiatric units for problem foxes, sunset homes for elderly addders and sheltered husing for hoodie crows - the ones that pluck out lambs' eyes.
One might laugh - but a search on charities for animals would show up quite a few.

Beware of cows in trench coats?
I don't think it has a moral but the point I would try to make would be that animal rights have further to come yet. Disturbed animals should obviously be put down, there's not actually anything you can do for them, they are suffering all the time. However 'innocent' animals should be free from cruel treatment.

You are so agitated that a baby has been injured and at the same time surprised when the animal is not "killed". What justice is it?
And, what problem do you have with rats?

I'm not sure a person more sensitive to the nature of wild animals could persuade me not to destroy one that wasn't afraid of preying on humans. That's common sense to me.
Did this fox simply come up in a crowd and take a bite? What's the full story?

It happened last summer. If I remember correctly the baby was left out in a city garden to catch some sun. Britain has an estimated 600,000 foxes unhappy with a countryside that has little for them - hens are kept in battery sheds , rabbits have myxo something - myxomatosis, hedges have been ripped out to make way for grain prairies.
Foxes are going urban. Bin liners filled with food scraps spill out on every pavement. Some animal lovers even leave out meals.
Foxes kill anythng it can - including cats and foul up wherever they go.
I have nothing against brown rats - Foxes may overtake rats in legendary meaness and cruelty.
The Spanish love goats so much that Spain sent warships, helicopters and special forces to retake a barren and desolate piece of sovereign soil the size of a couple of football pitches , inhabited only by goats.
A joint sovereignty solution never made it to the negotiating table at a guess. Spain evidently cares more for it's goats than Tony Blair, Jack Straw and Hain care for the British citizens of Gibraltar.
