Hello, i guess you know my name already so i'll just go ahead and ask my question. Here goes: I am new to the java programming language and have not been finding too easy understanding the syntax and semantics of the language. I need a guide. I hope to write a certifcation examination some day, but if i continue this way it may take me ages before i ever get a chance to try. I'm in dire need of assistance. - $tec  -
Of all of the books that helped me understand java, I found that Ivor Hortons Beginning Java 2 quite helpfull. Also Sun Certified Programmer % Developer for Java2 by sierra & bates was helpfull for the scjp, and I still reference this today.
I learned the basics from Cay Horstman and Gary Cornell in Core Java 2. They have just published a new edition for Java 1.5, so I'm sure it's a great way to learn the new features of the language as well.
