Hi,

One to test this forum's maxim of 'no question too dumb':

I'm trying to shoehorn some existing development into WSAD - the pure java stuff isn't giving me too much grief, but there are some .jsp files that I really don't understand. I've got two bits of code (shown below in their entirity), in different projects, one of which works and one doesn't:

and

What I don't understand is firstly why one compiles quite happily while the other falls over in a heap saying it doesn't recognise the variable hashColSpan, and secondly where on Earth the one that does work is getting the hashColSpan variable from. I have a few examples like this, and I think I am missing a very large point somewhere!

Cheers,

Richard

Can you post the whole JSP here?

JSPs often have <include> tags, which include other JSPs. It might be that the hashColSpan is included in one but not the other....

Err... those are the whole JSPs! Which is partly what's confusing me...

If those are the whole jsp's, I'd guess they're intended to be include files for other pages. You need to track down the pages that use them, to see how they work.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
