hi
do i require to know the API and JLS to get through the scjp1.4 exam.
since time is a factor i have time to go through K&B book and few mock exams,is tht enough.

You do not need to remember whole set of API.
And going through The Java Language Specification is really boring but usefull. I do not think you would like to when words come like Lexical Structure,Context-Free Grammars,the Lexical Grammar,The Syntactic Grammar,Grammar Notation etc...
Better If you know java, Solve as many questions as you can...If you are beginner, Grab a copy of Head First Java...And sink in to the Kathy's wonderland...

Exam does not test for API. Don't worry. Go through Sun' SCJP exam objective.
