I'm running Ubuntu and an AMD64 system. Sun's Java 5 works, but no Java plugin for a web browser is available yet.

Will this be sufficient to do all the code in the "Head First Java, 2nd edition" book?

Thanks.

HF Java isn't about Servlets, so why do you need the Web Browser plug-in?

I think it should work fine for you.

Servlets run on the web server, not on the browser. I don't know if HFJ uses any applet examples; applets do run in the browser. If HFJ does show you applets, you can just run them in the "appletviewer" application that comes with the JDK.

So I agree that this setup should be fine.
