i took intro to java and advanced java at my school already and we really just read out of the book and wrote a few programs here and there....what im trying to do is write at least one program a day if possible....because i feel that i know somethings about java but not everything...i learn best by actually doing and not reading a book!

is there some sort of website or book that has a ton of programming assignments for me to do?(also with the answer code)..because i feel the only way i will get better is to write alot of code.

You can try some of the following:

  • The Java Tutorial - There is probably a lot of reading to do here, but there are also a lot of examples. Most of the examples are already written for you, but you can modify them if you want to experiment with the different features. I don't know if there are any problems for you to start from scratch on your own.
  • TopCoder - Sponsors regular on-line coding competitions. If you don't want to compete, you can still use the practice problems. You will need to register for a user name and password. If you do so, put Code-Guru as the referring member.
  • Java Ranch's Cattle Drive - If you pay and register for this service, some Java experts here will give you feedback on your code. The problems are still available, so you can work on them without registering if you wish.

  • I'm sure there are others. In fact, the Search Tool will probably produce some threads where other people have asked this question before.

    Keep Coding!

One program a day? Better to try(IMO) and create a bigger program that includes many classes (and even packages) working a little part of it each day. You'll come across things you need to research and figure out. And this will make you a better programmer.

Doing one small program a day (which is probably just one simple class) doesn't teach you much OOP.

The Programming Diversions forum here at the bottom of the Forum List, can also give you some extra challenging programs to write.
