Hi,
wonder if you could help to solve a syntax err?
the code is exactly downloaded from sun tutorial website.

Thnks

import java.util.*;

class Deal {
public static void main(String[] args) {
int numHands = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);
int cardsPerHand = Integer.parseInt(args[1]);

// Make a normal 52-card deck
String[] suit = new String[]
{"spades", "hearts", "diamonds", "clubs"};
String[] rank = new String[]
{"ace","2","3","4","5","6","7","8",
"9","10","jack","queen","king"};
List<String> deck = new ArrayList <String> ( );
for (int i = 0; i <suit.length; i++)
for (int j = 0; j <rank.length; j++)
deck.add(rank[j] + " of " + suit[i]);

Collections.shuffle(deck);

for (int i=0; i<numHands; i++)
System.out.println(dealHand(deck, cardsPerHand));
}
}

D:\JCL-Extraction\JCL-Interfaces\MOM - Interface\08A-ZLB366OM\Deal.java:14: '(' or '[' expected
List<String> deck = new ArrayList <String> ( );
^
1 error

Seems there has been some Typo in the example.
For on i could guess that the line

List<String> deck = new ArrayList <String> ( );

should be

ArrayList deck = new ArrayList();
or simply
List deck = new ArrayList();

one more thing.... the Function
dealHand(deck, cardsPerHand)
is not available !!

compile you program with the above changes if it has the missing function and then see the result

You need Java 5.0 to compile programs with Generics in - which version are you using?
