We all need to ban together to stop this scourge. It is one of the most dangerous substances on the planet. Join ALISO VIEJO, Calif in stopping this menace.

Yup. It all started at a university as a project in social engineering.
A student started a petition to ban dihydrogen monoxide and got several hundred signatures from not only fellow students but professors as well before disclosing it was water they were voting to ban!
He then went on to (correctly) compare his project with the scare tactics used by environmentalists and others with agendas to ban anything using quasi-scientific terminology in an attempt to scare people into signing things they don't fully understand.
