Hi Sudeepa,
Though i have also not yet fully decided but observing the messages at different forums and talking to many people, i could see the worth of both SCWCD and IBM 140 Test.
Since i am working on J2EE, i would be able to pick up anyone of the above. Still not sure which one first but have set the target for both : Will have both these certs by Dec'31-2001.
I am not sure if this will help you but i can tell you both of these certs will be worth in the near future. Rest is your personal choice and liking towards the tech.
All the best for your next setp

Richard plz explain the difference btn Final mode and Practice Test mode of J@Whiz. I have given one final exam of J@Whiz and found it very easy (I expected hard questions). Do u think i'll get this level of questions in the actual exam?

Dear friends,
Thanks for your wishes and appreciations.
Sorry for not being able to reply as i coundn't get time.
To answer ashik:
The differnce b/w j@whiz practice and final test: The final as well as diagnostic exam questions are not used when you make a customized test. They are kept separate which is a good design logically also.
Regarding the questions in the final exam, even i felt the same. But i realized later that after practicing through so many practice exams and going through the exhaustive explanations, my knowledge of java for scjp2 really grew up. By the time i came to final exam, there was definitely an improvement.
Similar would be the case with you as well. So there is no need to worry for you. I am sure you will also be coming up with flying colors like me.
Do let me know if you need to ask any other question.
All the best for the dday

Hi Richard,
From your great and popular post it seems you have udergone many conversations with experience people including marcus green.
I could see that after scjp, even you were not clear as to what to do next? I fall in the same boat.
What would you suggest me?
It would be a great help.

after browsing through the success stoty of many ppl at this forum, i could see the popularity of your post.
i believe in copying the success of others instead of reinventing the wheel .
i would request you for your advice on one of the points im really bugged:
plz suggest me the right path for the topics like IO, Threads. assume me to be the beginner, what do you advice?
im sure u know the path to the success.
I WILL ALSO REQUEST OTHERS TO HELP ME.

Thanks priyha.
Well used to study 2-3 hours a day and i did for couple of weeks.
Last 2 weeks i almost only gave mock exams like marcus, j@whiz. I believe you must give sufficient time for these exams. There were many similar questions in the exam, like couple of questions were kind of repeated from marcus and threads/io were similar from j@whiz and javaprepare.com.
Another advice is to WRITE AS MUCH CODE AS POSSIBLE. There is nothing like it, believe me.
All the best
richard

Sorry rishab, i missed your message.
For IO and Threads: hmmm difficult topics
But there is no need to worry. I will suggest you to take a good book like Core Java / Complete Reference. Go through the chapter in detail and its VERY IMP for you to WRITE A LOT OF CODE.
Then i am sure you must be following some good book for certification like RHE/Khalid Mughal. I would suggest you to go thru the threads/Io chapters of all these books:
1.) Robert Heller Ernest
2.) Khalid Mughal
3.) Exam Cram
Attempt all the questions from these.
Additional if needed you can follow the tutorials/articles below:
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/io http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-09-1998/jw-09-threads.html
I believe its enuf before you finally prepare with mock exams like marcus, javacaps, jwhiz (u can use customize option for threads and io), javaprepare.
But still the crux of the matter is how much do you practice? How much code you try to write?
I am sure doing this, you will be in command and hopefully guiding someone else on these topics
Do let me know if you still need any help.
All the best
richard

Dear Reda,
Thanks for ur wishes. As of now, there is no special book on XML Certification like RHE for SCJP but after going thru the posts by people like Ajith and others i could see the value of XML Bible.
I am also exploring further and will surely let you know. Also i would request you to let me know as well.
Best of luck

Congrats Richard.
Xcellent score..I guess u are one in a many to get such a score.
I am appearing for the final exam next month.
Frankly speaking i am not that good at java.
Infact my concepts are not clear. At present I am referring through the RHE i guess that book alone is sufficient for the finals. What u say..also at this moment where only one month is left i cannot afford to reffer another book right?..I have heard alot abt JQ plus..Is that the same as what u were saying jwhiz??
Pls let me know should i go for the software, should i buy that or the mock exams avilable on the net are sufficient?..
I am very nervous for the exam coz i have just started giving the mock exams and my scores are very bad..Most of the times i dont even pass them.I am feelin ashamed to tell this.but this is the fact,
Please help me .I'll be very grateful to you. if u help me out.
I seriosly cannot understand a lots of concepts.
Help me out..

Hi Sonir,
Thanks for your wish.
You need not worry as you have enough time left. Provided you use this time in a right manner, i am sure you will be coming out with flying colors.
RHE is a nice book. Keep continuing this.
Certainly mock exams are very very important and WILL contribute a lot to your preparation. Regarding JWhiz - It is a GREAT test simulator. You can get it from www.whizlabs.com/jwhiz. It is different from JQ+ which i didnt use, but also nice product. From my experience i can tell you,if you give sufficient time preparing thru JWhiz - you are bound to obtain great score.
Also dont miss 3 mock exams by marcus at www.jchq.net. Also give enuf time for Threads/IO/Inner Classes topics.
Let me know how else can i be helpful to you.
Best wishes

Dear Sonir,
Be patient and devote enough time clearing your concepts before jumping to mock exams. Give one complete mock exam as a diagnostic test and look at your status. Find your weekness and work on that. I followed this approach and after getting the feedback from the diagnostic test of jwhiz, i could plan accordingly.
Thus don't be in hurry. Be cool and plan things.
I am sure you will have successs.
Best of luck
