Congrats Dilshaan for passing the exam at such a tiny age!Forget Java, I had never even touched a computer at that age.I don't know who gave you the wrong info that Java is generally used in computer games, but he did a good job in motivating you.I guess if you are really interested in developing games you should consider learning C.
Can I ask you, why you spend $150 on an exam which will be of no use to you unless you are looking for a job?I am sure there are lots of free exams available on net to test your Java skills.
Sure there are lot of exams available on net to test skills. But, exams like Sun Certification are standard exams where you really get to test yourself very well. Preparing for the SCJP and SCWCD exam was quite different from preparing for my school exam. My parents guided me through every step although they do not know much about Java. They told me that my exam preparation strategy now is almost as if I am preparing for some competitive exam. I think that is very important since today everything has become so much competitive.
Secondly, I also want to get some experience on real life projects. In the forthcoming Summer Vacations I am planning to work on something like that. If you have anything in mind please do let me know.
For $150 well my parents and I think that this is an investment for which I will reap fruits some point in my life.
I am preparing for SCWCD. I also do not have much experience in JSPs and Servlets. I have started preparing for the last 1 month. Can anybody give advise me how much time would I take to complete the same. can anybody guide me more about the preparation strategy (conceptual/memorizing/practical understanding etc..) I am currently using SCWCD exam kit by Hanumant Deshmukh.. is that book alone sufficient for cracking the exam of shud I go for HFSJ..???
For preparation time you would need about 3-4 months study. Hanumant Deshmukh book has lot of mistakes. It is very important for you to procure HFSJ. You may have to go through this book atleast 3 times. First time read through, second time thorough reading and making notes, third time revision. Also, you need to go through specs. That is very important.
Once you are through with this then you need to some mock exams.
Though i saw this late........ I could not help but admire your talent and guts to even think of something at such an age !! Hats off to You !! and may you achieve something path breaking and become an icon for all future aspirants of Java .
People, please note that this thread was originally posted in January 2006, that's two and a half years ago. Dishaan must be already almost 15 years old now, and probably he or she isn't looking at this thread anymore to see your congratulations.
