I postponed my SCMAD exam to the end of October, since my MSCS final exam comes into the end of September till the mid of October... Moreover, the professors assigned the class to do the two term projects individually....

And I'm struggling for the quiz on coming Friday as well....

So Ranchers, you guys may take SCMAD b4 me, but don't forget to share the exam experience here for me...

Welcome to the Ranch!!!

Thanks
Basically I am writing summary notes for all the JSR which are part of J2ME, and it is helping me alot + I am reading the J2ME complet refernce book which is just OK.
I think the exam should not be that difficult, I m very confident that I can do it at this date....Lets see...
One big risk I am taking is that I ll not use the SCMAD exam simulator by Whizlib.
A question for those who have taken the exam...What is the exam like I mean questions are more with codes or Drag n Drop and also which part of it was most difficult like GameCanvas etc....

I've taken beta SCMAD exam and I found a lot of code-based questions in the exam, especially in UI and Game -related questions... So be prepared to trace the codes down and choose the correct choice(s)...

So u will be taking it before me... Don't forget to share ur exam experience to us also, after you take the exam...

Do u guys think reading of 'Wireless Java' is required ?
Right now - I'm stressing on 'Complete Ref.' & specs. Thtz it.

Could not get the copy of 'Wireless java 2n edition'... Is it available in India ?

Ko ko - you mean there gonna be less theortical questions ?

There maybe some risks, but not BIG.

I guess simulator is a good way for practices, but not a must if you know the exam topics well, as simulators are used to test your knowledge on certain areas.

It's not a must reading... But it will help you a lot to understand the topic easily...

Most of the Sun's exams become less theoretical these days... Starting from SCWCD 1.4 exam... Code-based questions were introduced...

Hope it helps...

I do agree with Nick... Simulators are some kinda engine to test the readiness of our preparation for the exam...

Hi Sam Cala, so taking the exam at 10th, how long have u been preparing for the exam, did u use the simulator...?
Ko Ko I didnt know u already attempted once..I would have never waited so long after attempting once....But since you are taking ur time it shows that u found the exam quite tough...?

Best of Sam Cala, I ll be attempting at 15...

It's not that tough, I guess... For the Beta, I could not cover all the exam objectives within one month after SCWCD 1.4 beta finished... Especially with the topics like Push Registry, Game UI...

So I could not make it...

But for this time, I feel more confident than before....

I Clear the "MAD" today with only 76% I don't like the mark, but I am happy that I make it

Here is my experience
- In general, the exam is more difficult than I expected, more difficult than any sun exams I took before - SCJP, SCWCD and SCBCD
- The exam is a good exam. It really tests your understanding and experience on J2ME which is the way supposed to be and on the right direction, NOT test your memorization like SCJP...(too easy to get 90%+, which is a joke!)
- All the questions EVENLY distributed to all the objectives to test your comprehensive knowledges.
- I got many performance questions, which really test my experience (which I don't have). I lost a lot of points with this kind of questions.
- JTWA/CLDC mandatory specs, resource minimum, classes CLDC1.0/1.1 etc
- Security-Trusted sources, certificate etc
- MIDP and MIDlets-midlet lifecycle, midlet communication with AMS. tricky questions
- Application Lifecycle-JAD/JAR attributes, action on install failure etc tricky questions.
- Networking-failry difficult. questions(N/W API hierarchy), Code questions etc
- UI-API knowledge is required. methods in high level, more difficult with low level, image related questions
- GameCanvas difficult questions, I lost many points as well since I never done any game programming - no experience.
- MMAPI, easy questions(playing a tone, player states)
- WMA - sms and cbs requirements, sms lengh, WMA and push reg (tricky questions)
- I study couple of books and three times spec, but no experience, that why I don't get high mark, but I am happy that I am passed.
- My advice: Don't rush, take time to understand the spec since the exam test your understanding.

Finally wish all of you good luck!

Thanks. I don't know what to do next? Change to a new job, maybe dependents if I can find it. I couldn't see any good future for the IT. The only thing I can see is I have to upgrade all the time for new version and technologies. I know I am in wrong field.

Congrats Alibabra!!!

The exam is really difficult, I know that because I failed.
Don't be sad about your mark, Alibabra. The exam expect you to know more than the books says. We have to developing with J2ME constantly to make a GREAT mark.

I'm studying like I never did before to pick up a good mark. I hope get something around 80%. Something like you got.

Be calm, you're the best.

Congrats again.

Regards,
Wilder

So do I.

I am currently started to change the field, its quite painful indeed. On one hand I need to take exams to fulfill my boss, on another hand I need to study for another area.

No kidding You got so many certificates in this field, but you are saying that you have no future in this field and need to change to other field. What a waste! If such a IT certificates freak can't survive, that will be the end of the IT world - just joking. But what a pessimistic view!

So in your company, do many people have many certificates like you in order to keep the job? What kind of the company is that? Is it hard to find an programming job in Hongkong? (as I knew you are from Hongkong)

Yes, since my company works for several companies with various technolgoies, like DB2, Oracle, Java, IBM, etc, whenever it sells its services, it would say: "Our developers are all well-equipped to handle any technical issues in your software. See, (for eg. if the companies uses WAS), the whole development team is ICED!"

Thus, we always need to keep getting certs to fit the customers' technical requirements.

What kind of the company is that?

Medium-size software house

Is it hard to find an programming job in Hongkong?

Nope, it's easy, but just low salary.

In HK, I feel people are not too respect to IT people after the .com bubbles broken.
