The death penalty and themes like that are interesting to highly evolved humans (the only evolved kind we have unless you can supply conclusive evidence otherwise).
I don't know... As rulers of the Solar System by default, I guess we can do anything we (organized societies like the countries of Europe and America) want.
Unless someone could claim moral authority dictated "from above" (which nobody can, much less prove), then it's "every society for itself".
Conclusion: It is indifferent.
Recommendation for future action in the USA: Follow the example of the Republican Governor of Illinois who believes in the death penalty and at the same time suspended all pending executions because of the mistakes made with too many inmates who turned out to be INNOCENT.
Before you reply, study the Illinois, USA situation that I just mentioned.
I personally (and many Americans don't believe in the death penalty, not even for McVeigh): He should have been paralyzed by injection from the neck down and have his relatives feed him and clean his excrements for the rest of his miserable life. But instead we let him off. He won.

i like your suggestion for mcveigh's punishment, tony! too bad you weren't able to tell the fed's that before they injected him.
i just watched something on the discovery channel about 2 kids that went on a shooting rampage a couple years ago. one of the victims was shot in the neck and she is paralyzed from the neck down now... someone mailed a letter to the shooter's father telling him that his daughter (the shooter) should be paralyzed from the neck down and he should have to care for her for the rest of her life. this goes back to "eye for an eye"

IMHO, "eye for an eye" is just an excerpt from a book written by man that nobody is sure of the origin of. And nobody should conform their lives to.

At any rate, we humans have full control of what happens in the planet. With the understanding that we only account for ourselves.

Every death penality is society admitting failure.
Every crime is a sign that we either need
1) more research in how to teach the children and adults those things society commonly cherishes
2) more research in genetics/psychology (heh).

Of course, every post is a possible breakthrough in seeing or just babble.

But with the upcoming over-population of the World as we know it it's every man for himself.
It was nice meeting you all in this part of the Globe.

There are no more "hours", it's centi-days. They say it's better, but this tiny ad says it's stupid:
