"put a bid on someone" sounds a lot like pursuing to fulfill ones sexual fantasies for money. That's illegal in most states How about "put a hip on"?

Randall, what is it exactly that you want, I'm confused? Are you 36 or older, BTW, 'cause if not you might be in big trouble. Since you are not sure if she's the one, why not to take a good wham-bam then? What is wrong with mutually beneficial wham-bam? Shura [ June 11, 2002: Message edited by: Shura Balaganov ]
I would say, it’s very hard to take advantage of a girl unless she *wants* you to take advantage of her.
- Well if thats the case..there aint no "taking advantage of anyone".. it seems more mutual. As I percieve, "advantage" is not mutual. Lupo " in the country of the blind, the one eyed man is the king."

In the beginning she hadn't thought of you at partner material. Now she thinks you are. Our society makes it difficult to tell you this, so she has to tell you under the accepted means: under the influence of alcohol. She made the first move. You did the right thing. But now you have to make the next move: ask her out. Dinner and a movie.
i knew there was a reason i was leary of her. i wanted to ask her out to see a movie this weekend. i tried contacting our mutual friend. then on a hunch i went to the tavern. there she was with some other guy and she left with him. i guess she just couldnt pick anyone up last saturday. i guess i am just fated to always be alone. i guess javaranch is right to say it is always a good idea to check out the local watering hole.
