Back to the original question: who's your favorite comic book character?
For me as a kid: tie between Wolverine and Batman.
For me now (yes, now, why are you looking at me strangely?) - that's tougher. The Tick is a good candidate. (Not to mention Arthur, Die Fledermaus, Sewer Urchin, American Maid, and Dinosaur Neil. And the Caped Chameleon even though he only appeared once.) I'll also agree with Mark Fletcher on Neil Gaiman's Sandman, and Bone. (Well if we're talking characters I prefer Death over Dream , but anyway...) Swamp Thing was great, but not for the character so much as the story, IMO. A few other favorites are Rorshach, the Confessor, and most anyone in Alan Moore's Top Ten.
This survey may be of interest, especially to those who enjoyed Watchmen. I came closest to Niteowl apparently - no surprise there, given the choices.

As a kid the only comic book I read on a regular basis was the Transformers... I think Ive got over 100 issues stuck up in the loft somewhere. Not that theyre worth jack, but at least if will help the house burn down that little bit faster ^_^!
Jim, youre spot on re: Sandman. When I made my post I realised that yeah, Death probably was the "coolest" of the endless. I guess I should rephrase my original posting to refer to Sandman the comic book series.
One series of comic books that I wish I really had the time to get into and *buy* a subscription is 2000AD. Judge Dredd! Years ago one of my friends dad had collected 2000AD for years and had a big stash of the comics in a cupboard somewhere, we'd used to go round and read through them. Its a shame tho about the terrible movie with Stallone that was made about Dredd; why did he have to walk about with his helmet off? One of Dredds strongest point is that in the comic book, no one knows what he really looks like!
Cheers,
Mark
