I wonder if people in the Southern Hemisphere are offended by images of winter to represent the season.

I believe Arizona has Chili wreaths.
Perhaps they sing "In the deep mid-solstice..." instead.

Chili wreaths in chilly weather? That would compute in Chile which is in the Southern Hemisphere.
And why the restriction to an ordinary Nordic Christmas tree ?
A Red Elm with all the fairy lights would be 'proper' IMHO in your part of the Northern Hemisphere..
In London there is an obsession with bamboo. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a breakout of bamboo Christmas trees next year.
The French could do with something stupendous to hang all those confiscated headscarves...

P.McK: I dont judge any of your comments by your name or your profession or your religion. I judge purely based on the conviction you bring forth through your statements.
JD: Purely, surely. So why this next reply???:

mm.. Welcome friend.. However I must ask you why you chose the name "Hussein Baghdadi" in particular. It seems like a mix of Saddam Hussein and Baghdad to me.. well Saddam Hussein is not exactly America's best friend and Baghdad isnt exactly very friendly to Americans right now. So why this combination? Or is your real name Hussein and you live in Baghdad..

Two days, and no answer to this question above. Does the name matter or does it not, "Paul McKenna"?

Nathan, a name does not matter. I did not judge Husseini Baghdadi by his name, I simply wanted to know if he was having a fake name. I asked that question in my post as well..

It's the 21st century already; aren't you people done hashing over the same "what's in a name" argument?

Hi Joe,

Google puts out special web pages for everything from Albert Einstein's birthday to the Anniversary of the Wright Brothers' first flight, but they don't put out anything for Christmas.

There is a big difference, Joe ! Recalling Albert Einstein's birthday is 100% informative : most of Google's users don't know it. Recalling Jesus Christ's birthday is "just" celebrating : people who are interested in Chritmas don't risk to forget the date.
When I read, hear, write or tell "Merry Christmas" from/to somebody (a friend, a relative, or anybody I cross in the street), I "feel" something, the feeling attached to Christmas and I love it. But if I had to read a "Merry Christmas" Google logo, I would'nt feel anything : Google is not talking to me, even not to some Google community, because there is no Google community.
In comparison, JR *is* a community, and it makes sense to me to wish a Merry Christmas here on JR as Jose Botella did here. And more than the lack of of Christmas logo on Google, I think it's a shame that only 6 people replied to him.
Best regards, (and Merry Christmas !)
Phil.

Hi Joe,
I am not used to the MD forum and I just see now that I missed your Merry Christmas and Mark Fletcher'sone as well.
Anyway, 6 + 11 + 2 = 19, it doesn't change that much. So I guess you'll agree with what I posted above.
Best,
Phil.

In a society where the first question you're asked when speaking to someone on the days after christmas is either "what did you have for christmas diner" or "what christmas gifts did you get" I think it's brave for a largish corporation to not openly take part in the commercialisation of christmas...

Fair enough. But since saying "Merry Christmas" has nothing to do with the "commercialization" of Christmas, I think it's goofy for Google to ignore the fact that Christmas exists.

I am upset because they simply chose to NOT acknowledge Christmas.

Maybe they ARE acknowledging Christmas by ignoring it. You are expecting them do do something about it, so they purposely DON'T, thereby calling even more attention to the issue. It's like in music - you have to listen to the notes they DON'T play...

In my experience, they try to imitate it even though they don't really even have any experience with real snow. In Brazil, they get pine trees and put fake snow (sometimes cotton) on them along with other Christmas decorations (bulbs, lights, etc).
