There's no hurry on my end. Most of the Scotch probably evaporates at a faster rate than I drink it. That's why I have so many.
I was teaching in Chicago one time looking for an Irish pub/grill and came across
The Curragh in Schaumburg. I had some Macallan for an appetizer and a Guinness with a traditional boxty for dinner. That order, along with my big block head, short auburn hair and hazel eyes must have qualified me to the staff, as the bartender asked me if I wanted to try something. Excuse me, "wunted to troie sumthin'." And he brought over this small sample of Midleton, about a quarter-ounce. Wow. Amazing.
So I went looking for the stuff and it's not-surprisingly expensive, but surprisingly hard to find. Went looking for their '96 release and couldn't even find a private owner who wanted to give a bottle up. I had liquor merchants in Manhattan scratching their heads, so it looked bad. Finally I settled for the 2000, which I found online.
Comes in a box. Serial number. Certificate of authen-freakin'-ticity. You can
register the bottle in your name, for Pete's sake. But it is good, even in California.
Tell you what, JdJ, you make it all the way out here, we'll bring that bottle down and do some damage.
