New York City... Home of the currently in-progress, but mostly rained out, US Open Tennis Championships.

Wow, it's actually *not* raining this morning...

Sacramento, California.
No, I've never run into Arnold Schwarzenegger downtown, nor did I vote for him.

BTW, our sister city is Ocean City, Maryland, since it's the other endpoint of Interstate Highway 50, 3073 miles away.

I feel like I am touring the world, using my mouse. Some of the pics are stunning! Some looks amazingly geometric (guess which pic; it looks like a puzzle of polygons and lines).

Marc, whose railroad tracks are those, do you know?
My husband works for a local railroad here and I know he'd be interested in that picture.

I found the photo at Eden Prairie Depots on the site M&StL / Iowa Central / C&NW - Railroad Site. The photo is from the collection of Ernie Shuldheiss, who is apparently a railroad historian in Eden Prairie.

These tracks were the Minneapolis-St. Louis railroad, which was built through Eden Prairie in 1871. In fact, the coffee shop I'm sitting in now is converted from the Smith Douglas More house, which was built next to the depot in the late 1800's. (This is on Co Rd 4 just south of State Hwy 5.) The 5 rooms upstairs were originally for train passengers to stay overnight before proceeding by stage to the Chanhassen-Excelsior area. The first trains here were steam boilers, so the water tank seen in the photo was for filling the engines. In fact, the "Eden Prairie" sign in the photo is now hanging inside the coffee shop.

The tracks have been gone for years now, although there's talk of putting light rail transit in that corridor.

Ref: Eden Prairie - The First 100 Years by Helen Holden Anderson (a copy of which happens to be here at the coffee shop).

The office I work in and my appartment are both in that really small area.
http://maps.google.de/maps?f=q&hl=de&q=K%C3%B6ln&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=17&ll=50.933896,6.938403&spn=0.005497,0.016844&t=h&iwloc=A
The hospital I was born and the university I visited are less than a kilometer away from that area. School, house of my parents about 15 kms. Have come back here.
K´┐Żln (Cologne) at the western riverbank of the Rhein (of course).
