Hi Guys,

I'm a bit confused - I thought that right now it's enough to buy the first part of the SCJD on the Prometric ($300) and then the second part also on Prometric (another $300). When I look at prometric Oracle exams it shows only "310-027 - Oracle Certified Developer for J2SE". The 310-027 is as I can see (here) an Essay part.

So right now I go back to the page when there are details about SCJD Part 1 (Assignment) and read:

Candidates no longer need to purchase vouchers prior to taking an exam. Please pay Prometric directly for your exam during registration.

Could someone kindly tell me if I'm getting this right and to pay / get the assignment, I've got to register here, and print the task to complete the purchase of the SCJD Part 1?

Thanks in advance :-)

Hello everybody, my 2 cents:

My email to suncert_ww@oracle.com (22/08/2010)

Hello,

I downloaded my Sun Certified Java Developer assignment on November 2004 and I was wondering if it is still valid, and what are the steps I have to take to be certified.

I’ ve read since Oracle adquisition of Sun these procedures have changed and I would be very grateful if you could give futher information.

Their reply (27/08/2010):

You actually have access to the assignment for 1 year from the date of purchase - not date of download. Please check your purchase confirmation email to determine your assignment deadline.

We would request you to mail us the assignment and essay as soon as possible, since the assignment process is undergoing a major change after the Oracle SUN merge. We will give you 60 days to complete your assignment but we cannot extend your deadline beyond that. Please submit the assignment and essay 30 Oct 2010.

Regards,
OCP Team

So here i am again.
See you around!

Hi guys,

Nice to see you guys are all doing well!

To add to some of your posts; I am also extremely disappointed with Oracle regarding the fact that we who received our certifications before 01 September still have the old title - and I even emailed them and asked them if they would mind issuing it to me with the new title, but no-go - and this after all the months of licking ** to get the assignments graded; but anyway there is nothing we can do about it except re-skill.

Cheers,
Pieter

Replying to myself (weird...) - yes, this is the right thing to do - buy the first task at the IBT1.prometric.com. One interesting thing is that on the IBT you can read:

Choose the SCJD 310-252A exam. There is no promotion or voucher code. Complete payment to begin test.

It doesn't mean that there are no vouchers for this exam, because I was asked about one during the payment process. I guess it only means that you DO NOT NEED a voucher but you CAN have one and use it.

Hi Raf,

Your assignment result was announced on 07 Sept 2010. We will be processing your Oracle Certified Master, Java SE6 Developer certificate.

Hope this holds true, and hope this will help you and clear any doubts. As soon as I get it, and something is wrong, I will post more.

Today I got the package - and it is the old SCJD that I got, with signs by J. Schwartz and someone else, who don't even work there any more! Jeez, this Oracle really is a piece of crap.

We are temporarily changing the process for this certification due to some systems changes related to the Oracle acquisition. Rather than download the assignment instructions and upload the assignment completions, we are simply sending it to you as an email attachment and you will send us back a JAR file. Please see your attached assignment.

When you have completed your SCJD assignment, please go to Prometric and take Part 2 of your certification. Part 2 is the exam 310-027, which you can register for at prometric.com/sun. We cannot grade your assignment (310-252A) without the completion of the essay (310-027).
When you are ready to send us your completed assignment you may email it to developer-submit@oracle.com. We will then collect your essay responses and send this off for grading. We will respond to you with a grade within 4-6 weeks.

Hello,

does anyone know if this is still valid? When I bought the assignment I got the this mail with the assignment jar but when I try to send the submission jar to the mail address developer-submit@oracle.com it is apparently denied by the mailer demon:

Final-Recipient: rfc822;<developer-submit@oracle.com>
Diagnostic-Code: 550
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0

I've send a mail to suncert_ww@oracle.com but didn't get a reply yet.

I had this automated response :

Thank you for your assignment submission. Please allow 4-6 weeks for your assignment to be graded. You will receive notification via email once we have your assignment results. If you have not already, please go ahead and complete any outstanding requirements.

Feel free to contact us at suncert_ww@oracle.com if you have any questions.

If you have submitted a query and have not submitted your assignment, we will reply to your question within 5 business days. Please send future questions to suncert_ww@oracle.com

It seems at least to be the correct way. I just hope that the delay is still good

Hi. This will be most likely my last post on this matter. Today I got the new shiny Oracle certificate, in addition to the old one that I got more than week ago. So now I got two in price of one. Niiccce. So to answer any questions - if you paid for the assignment before September, and sat the exam before September, BUT you got the answer later then September 1., you will get the new Oracle Certified Master title.
Cheers.

What should I try to do now? I've called Oracle University and all they did was take my name/number and am waiting for a call back - it's been 2 days.

Hi Roy,

I have just submitted yesterday to developer-submit_US@oracle.com, and everything worked perfectly. After around 5 minutes I got a response telling that my assignment is received and is to be graded. Which address did you submit to?

I remember someone else having the same error as you got, this thread can be found here. Not a real solution is provided, except trying to change the extension.

Wouldn't changing extension automatically disqualify you? Since they explicitly require a jar file.

I don't think there is a snail mail address to submit your assignment.

I guess not if you clearly indicate in your mail that you tried sending the jar file but that it was rejected by their mailing system.

I would certainly try to contact Oracle through the suncert_ww@oracle.com and ask for further instructions. And keep sending the mail until you get a reasonable solution.

Hi folks,

Could anyone help me out here? I bought my assignment CX-310-252A on 05/07/2007 and I never got around to doing it. I have it downloaded and I still have access to it online. I am just wondering if anyone knows whether I can still use this assignment and submit it sometime this year? Has anyone got any first hand experience of submitting an assignment they bought a back as far as 2007 and submitted in 2010 or 2011?

I tried contacting Oracle, but it sounds like I got a generic copy'n'paste reply, rather than a specific answer to my case. The reply is pasted below.

They've told me that I need to satisfy these two conditions:

  • "The assignment exam should be #310-252A"
  • "Valid assignments must have been issued after January 2008"

  • Now, my assigned is 310-252A, but I bought it before January 2008! I never read this second term of January 2008 mentioned anywhere?

Obviously Oracle would prefer if I paid for another 310-252A, but I'd rather not. From this thread it sounded like any assignments bought from Sun before a time limit was applied on submitting were going to be honoured by Oracle. But from Oracle's reply, it sounds like they are not honouring these?

    Any advice appreciated,

    Sean

As per Oracle policy, certification credentials are awarded only for currently active certification tracks. While the certification credentials for earlier tracks remain valid, we do not certify new candidates on retired certification tracks. To align with this policy, please note your assignment will be graded only if you are pursuing the current Java SE6 Developer certification track that is congruent with this essay exam. We will not review assignments for certification tracks prior to Java SE6 Developer certification.

To determine the version of the certification track for your assignment, you can refer to the email that you have received from Sun with the exam assignment purchase details. The assignment exam should be #310-252A (the assignment referenced on this page). If you don’t have your assignment purchase email, you can refer to the date you purchased your assignment and the assignment was issued. Valid assignments must have been issued after January 2008. Any assignments that were issued prior to this date are no longer valid as they are for a retired certification track. All path and exam retirements are announced on the website 3 months prior to the retirement.

If you wish to pursue the Java Developer certification, you will need to complete the requirements for the current certification path Oracle Certified Master, Java SE6 Developer

    Hi Sean,

    wrote you a PM.

But, btw, i'm currently in a fight with Oracle. I bought my assignment in January, 2008. After getting some email like you, that "blablabla...", i wrote back
and then i got a second mail that i should send my assignment to 'developer-submit_US@oracle.com'. So, now i have done this and i'm waiting for their
feedback... I need their feedback while there's no possibility to buy an essay voucher for this assignment (part II). So, what have you done?

    Regards
