I was googling an entirely different topic and found your post, and was kind of struck to find you had described the book I just finished, "The Big Picture." The particular book I just finished is "J2EE: The Big Picture" and seems to work for nontech people but also non-J2EE programmers.

I've been trying to explain it to people since it's as you say not a dummies book, so I was kinda struck to see someone else had already asked for it.

Bookwise, I've always wanted a slow and easy Java programming book that's maybe 1/10th of a typical Java book, for the same kind of market. And a book on graphic design basic concepts and how to make cool things, for people like me who work on their own and do all their own web sites, logos, etc., with varying amounts of success. ;>
