I am trying to find a common jdk installation for both Linux and Windows. Can you please tell me whether there is any possibility for it. If there is, where can I find it. Thanks in advance.

Linux and Windows require different JREs.
There isn't one JDK that will work on both of them.

I'm moving this thread over to the Java in General forum because it has nothing to do with Servlets. Please continue the discussion over there.

Thanks.

the binary format between the platforms is different so even the installers themselves can't possibly be shared

Of course any Java bytecode compiled on one platform will run just fine on the other (unless you use platform specific extensions).
