I am a java beginner.In all the books when i read about the history of java,i am surprised to see that java was originally designed to conrol the hardware and electronic devices.Is it true?Is java used to control electronic devices?if u have any idea please share.

There are Java-based phones, and many more phones can run Java games. PDAs, too, and other devices. So in a way the answer is "yes". The original vision of Java universally running set-top TV boxes and other home entertainment and automation appliances was never realized, but you have to remember that this was thought up before the explosion of the Web and dynamic content thereon.

JavaRanch has a Java Micro Edition forum for discussing the topics related to Java in smaller devices. Worth a visit, in my opinion.
