Hi all,

I am new to this wonderful forum!!

Straight away with one question.

What are security issues (or disadvantages) of using enviornmrnt variables(in networking environment or PC) than creating the .bat file for setting path,classpath,java_home and more...

Thanks and Regards,
Sachin.

Hi,

Welcome to JavaRanch!

No, I'm afraid we don't understand your question. It's not clear that there are any security issues specifically associated with environment variables. Did somebody tell you there were?

There are other issues, especially regarding CLASSPATH: having a global CLASSPATH usually causes more problems than it's worth. They have nothing to do with security, though; it's more a problem with different programs wanting different values, changing the CLASSPATH during installation and breaking each other.

Do you mean placing them in autoexec.bat file so that it executes everytime on system startup and sets these variables?

If that is the case, I think it is pretty much the same as setting them through right click on 'My Computer'. No security issues as such.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
