Different names for the same thing. I think Sun's marketing monkeys want us to refer to it as "Core Java J2SE 5.0".

That's "Core Java 1.5 SDK Version 5.0 (Tiger) Standard Edition Platform Runtime."

Sun have a web page which is intended to clear up any confusion. Will it clear it up? Why don't you read it Mahesh Pinnamaneni and let us know

This naming issue has even confused Sun at times. I have a copy of "Just Java", Fourth edition, which was published by Sun Microsystems Press.

The cover and CD are titled "Just Java 2".
On the first two pages, the title is "Just Java 1.2".

From what I understand, "Java 5.0" is used to indicate the version for users where as "JDK 1.5" is used to indicate the version for developers. In the end, this is just a lot of marketing blather that is quite meaningless, albeit quite confusing. Just be satisfied that they are the same thing; there is not difference.

I like the term "marketing monkeys". This 1.5, 5.0 confusion thingy is really created by Sun's marketing monkeys.
