I've been told to tone down my posts in MD. I said I won't unless Michael Ernest tones down his, pointing out the fact that I only respond negatively in response to negative posts, most of which are coming from him.
That didn't go over well.
I'm going out of town for a day and a half. When I come back, we'll see where this all stands. If I'm no longer here, you'll all understand why.
It's been fun.

Hey Joe,
Sorry to hear that youre not having a good time in MD; if you do choose to leave, please let it only be MD and not the site as a whole. Personally I think this bulletin board (the whole of saloon.javaranch.com) is pretty good, MD acts as a heatsink for all the various entropy that would otherwise overrun the whole board. Please dont let your experiences here prejudice you against the rest of the forums on the board.
Cheers,
Mark

Well, if only I counted the number of times that my posts were edited or deleted in MD, I would not have any time to do any bona fide work in Java forums here. Over the years (yeah, it took me that long), I became more familiar with the real MD rules, -- they are more about look and feel, rather than the rigid boundaries. I think I managed a straight year or so without being sensored, -- I guess you could say that I've been institutionalized by Javaranch.
I also realized that the vaguely specified MD rules actually work. True, some people get upset when censored, but it's not hard to see where some of the discussions would lead if allowed all degrees of freedom. If I were to summarise the MD rules in a figurative way, it would be "feel free to use the word forms of the word fuck, but don't use it as a verb".
