Java question from a beginner

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Maybe I am making too much of this and I am confusing myself. In an HTML file where and how do I call in an Applet? Do I code the Applet in the HTML or call in the reference to the Applet?

Don't think badly of me I am not a complete beginner I just have not used Java programming for any web site I have created. My real thought is to make a FAQ using a MySQL db in my website www.net1plus.com\users\tooltime and some business features to my companies web site www.uniprodinc.com.

Thanks

Bob

This is just my opinion, but if you are a Java beginner, forget about applets.
Start with standalone code, to concentrate on Java itself. Learnng Java by writing applets means fussing with two things at once.

Once you have got some Java chops, I would still suggest staying away from applets: consider writing your application as a web app. That's just my opinion -- I'm sure others out there think more highly of applets than I do...

For applets you might want to start with a quick tutorial like the one found here: http://www.echoecho.com/applets.htm. This shows you how to connect applets to html pages as well as how to write good applets.

However, for the applications you mentioned you might want to consider a different approach. Using Servlets/JSP would probably work better for you. Here's one possible starting point for learning about Servlets http://java.sun.com/j2ee/tutorial/1_3-fcs/doc/Servlets.html

Ok Jeff I will stay away from the applets. Thanks for the pointer. Mike I will check out servlets. I had seen that somewhere in my readings. I will check out the link you posted and see what is there that I can use. I was just trying to test the waters of anything that may be of use.

I can write some code but I have not got to any code functions that have been of any use to me. "Hello World" just dont cut the mustard.

Thanks

Bob
