Me too.

Very glad, though, that my hubbie & I got to see him perform - at Humphry's in San Diego a few years back. Spectacular. Brought tears to my eyes to see the love & passion that flows when he performs.

Another indication that heroin addiction and liver failure are somewhat correlated. Would he be as good as he was without it, I guess not. Art is not olimpic event anymore, if it was we would test artists for performence enhancing drugs.

Not surprised that others are missing the point of the lesson of Charles' existence since most only know him by his great music.

Since a boy, his mother, who died early in his years, taught him to be self sufficient in spite of his handicap. He became blind around age 7. She inspired him to continue living fully, and well, he did.

He IS an inspiration for people who think that a disability like blindness should prevent them from living a full life.

I couldn't do it. Most likely I would commit suicide.

Ray Charles was a better man than me.

What'd I Say?!

No; I am not referring to my previous post but to one of the first (if not the first) songs that I learned to play on the guitar in early 1965.

It was Ray Charles' version... In E minor, BTW.

Ray Charles songs

America The Beautiful page

Ray Charles sang his own version of America The Beautiful at Reagans confirmation as it's candidate for the second time 20 years ago at the Republican Convention at Dallas.

Ray Charles treatment of the anthem brought the house down. Here was a black man raised in abject Southern poverty serenading the richest most powerful people in America at the coronation of their leader.

In the same article, Reagan is honoured for his willingness to acknowledge greatness in political rivals. At a time when the late JFK's reputation was
was being attacked by historians Reagan never ceased to elevate JFK into the pantheon of great US leaders.

By doing so , he removed the poison lingering from in Kennedy's assassination from American life.

While Reagan was undoubtedly Right Wing, his appeal was across the board.

Mr Charles said later it was just a job like any other. He didn't get involved in politics.
