Recently I was disturbed a lot by this news which was sent by one of my friend. Just go through the news and comment on it.I really want to see the reaction among the computer professionals.

What we can do to eradicate this kind of barbarism in this world?

pretty one-sided commentary...
What the story didn't say is that the people in that camp were Tamil Tiger terrorists who were there for murdering entire villages that didn't want to submit to their rule.

I'd not be surprised if people that had lost family and friends to these terrorists took it out on them given the chance.

Mind I don't approve of it and find it appropriate they are arrested and tried, but I can understand it.

Are we civilised? Mostly yes, if we weren't such crimes would go unpunished or the punishment would be administered without any form of process.
I'd venture that the guards at those camps were probably more civilised than the inmates...

Would you care to back that up???

It was a "rehabilitation camp". The people who were there in that camp were never proved for "murdering entire villages".

No, people are not civilized. It will take a long long time for people to become civilized if indeed it ever happens.

But what is "civilised"? The Romans called themselves civilised but had gladiatorial fights to the death. The medieval Europeans called themselves civilised but had crusades. The colonial era Spanish called themselves civilised, but had the Inquisition. The early Americans called themselves civilised but had slaves. "Civilised" is just a label that people like to give to themselves to separate them from other people who are seen as being "un-civilised" ie inferior.

True. I think a lot of our animal ancestry effects how we act in every day life. Many of our habits and opinions are down to these in built instincts. A relatively benign one is the desire to attract a mate - this makes us want to look nice, and has resulted in the fashion industry. Even things like male children preferring running and violent games while female children prefer social games is probably down to inherited instinct. One of the more serious animal instincts was the idea of protecting your own tribe and apposing other tribes. This instinct has carried over to modern humanity as an almost instinctive dislike for people that are different. Humanity has struggled many times throughout history to get over this, but again and again we see people having prejudices against other people just because they are different in some way (culturally, physically, etc). Perhaps we could describe the journey to civilisation as being a struggle of intellect over instinct.
