i was just wondering what would the code be so that i can get a text bow to appear with some kind of numerical question, the user would then put in a number and then it wouls take them to asking them their names and such

There are some classes in javax.swing that you might find useful. Look at JOptionPane.

Just wondering, what do you mean by a text bow? I'm thinking bow tie, archery bow, a violin bow, the forward part of a ship... the tie to java just isn't clicking right here Unless by bow you mean something curved, which makes me think you want something with a GUI. In that case, yeah JOptionPane boxes are the thing that come to mind.

Even though the "w" and "x" keys aren't adjacent on my keyboard I guess the request was for a "text box". In which case JOptionPane is a good answer.
