The jar file is just some sort of a zip file as does not have a java compiler version. Do you want to find the version of the classes inside the jar file ?

i never did this but here is what google spilled at me: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=624398&messageID=3791498

be aware that the classes inside the jar file could be compiled with more than one version.
