Welcome to JavaRanch.

JavaBeans have nothing to do with servlets or any particular servlet container like Tomcat. The Sun Java web site has lots of good material about JavaBeans: an introduction for the basic concepts, a trail in the tutorial for more advanced stuff, and the specification. The introduction by itself should clarify the question you were asked.
