This questions may tip my hand, but at the risk of seeming like a slacker... What is the easiest certification to get from Java and the best certification path for greenhorns?
Thanks!

Sun recently introducted the SCJA certification, which is the Sun Certified Java Associate exam.

Basically, the programmer exam is just that - a tough exam for programmers. It tests you not only on basic syntax, but on many of the intricacies of the language, which many people who have been working with Java for years would never encounter. I mean, you can work with J2EE for many, many years, and never encounter a GridBagLayout.

So, many people, from Junior programmers, to project managers, need to prove a proficiency with Java in order to do their jobs effectively, but at the same time, they don't need to know the intricate details of the volatile or transient keywords. That's exactly what SCJA is for.

Now, I wouldn't call it an easy exam. It cast a broad net, and you need a large knowledge of various Java technologies, from MIDlets to Servlets, from J2EE to RMI. But you don't need to know the in-depth intricacies - you just need to konw the basic concepts.

So, I'd say the SCJA exam probably fits what you're looking for.

Here's more detail about the exam offering from Sun Microsystems website:

Sun Certification Exam Information: CX-310-019

Good luck!
