Welcome to JavaRanch!

Your question is a little difficult to answer. Although you've had some training and worked with struts, servlets, etc., I'm not sure exactly what your foundation is. Also, I'm not sure what your goals are in continuing with Java.

Offhand, I would suggest you consider Java certification (SCJP), because this is an excellent way to ensure a solid foundation.

Thanks marc
Im decent in basic concepts of java ,database concepts ,operating systems .
i have got an an engineering degree in electronics and communications and was offered job in computer services company. They trined me in java and i was hooked to it but they put me on a project in siebel . i cant leave company becuase i have two years contract with them and want to continue to work in java so i feel trapped .
The most vital question starring down my face now is that how can i make two years experiance in siebel count in java . what must i do to keep abreast with latest happenings in java and how to improve my skillset .
My goals in continuing with java are simply to continue working in java professionaly . At the end i must add that im not averse to work in some other technologies but siebel i feel is two restrictive even to add a new html template you have to ask for licence . i know some of these quetions might seem naive but im new to this industry so there are somethings which im understanding at moment

Hi salman,
I guess the best way to go about is certifications if you want to continue in java after 2 years. If you have worked on seibel for 2 years it will be difficult for the next company to give you a java assignment based on your previous exp.So certifications is your only way.You can start with SCJP for starters and later go for the SCBCD and SCWCD which will prove your java expertise. Other way is to pusue your career as it comes and take up java as your hobby doing part time projects.
