Hi,
This is with regards to Sun launching 1.6 even when 1.5 is not a industry standard. As far as i know no one is using 1.5 for application development.

FWIW, my project currently uses 1.5 and we may jump to 1.6 before general release.

What makes you think that nobody is using Java 1.5 for application development? I know lots of commercial projects where Java 1.5 is used.

I know some people are using 1.5 but it might be just a fraction of the java community.....Can you tell me if it is really a industry standard like 1.4?

How did we ever establish that 1.4 is an "industry standard"?

Does anyone have any statistics related to the usage between the different versions of Java? I have seen some study that contrast Java with other platforms, but never between Java versions.

All stats that I have encountered, have been anecdotal and localized to specific projects, that I have been involved in.

An old joke: "The nice thing about standards is there are so many to choose from."

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
