Hi,

First of all, let me say I have programmed before, but its been YEARS. At least 5 years, maybe more. At this point, I'm pretty much a noob.

I picked up a copy of Head First Java to begin and started reading through the area on setting up the Java 2 SE SDK. I went to Sun's site and noticed that they now have Java 2 6 SE, so I downloaded that instead. So far, not a big deal. I ran the file and installed it.

Then I looked back to the Head First book to see that it wants me to "add an enrty" to "my PATH environment variable".

It is explained that this is so when I type % javac at the command line, the computer will know where to find that. I recall setting up something like this waaay back in the DOS years, but I have no clue how to do this now.

I am running Windows XP.

Any help would be most appreciated! I feel pretty stupid getting stuck so early.

Brent

right click my computer. select properties. Go to advanced tab. At the bottom choose Environment Variables. The setting will take effect in any new dos prompts you open from then on.
