Hi all,
Iam about to start Java programming. Iam not new to programming and have already done some coding with C/C++, pretty much with good understanding of OOP. Can you guys suggest me some good books to start with, that should give me a good grip on the lang as well should aim at SCJP. Is there any specific book for C++ programmer to get into Java. Please help

Try "head first java" or "thinking in java". Or you could try the SCJP study guide by Kathy and Bert

You can get Bruce Eckel's Thinking in Java for free.

Sun's Java Tutorial is also a good resource for learning Java.

I started w/ Java 2 by Example by Jeff Friesen purchased on Amazon as a 2nd-hand book but in first-hand condition for less than $7 bucks, shipping and all. It's a little dated but still a wonderful intro text (except for lack of Swing) for a very decent price.
