Welcome to the Ranch.

No.

It was developed by James Gosling about 1995. The story is they wanted to call it Oak after a tree growing outside Gosling's office window, but they discovered there already was a language called Oak. Over coffee (the old cup of Java) somebody suggested Java as a name. Hence the coffee cup on the icon on a JFrame.
