Sometime ago, I got two forwarded mails, both had WMA files.

Subject of mails clearly said "careful, put your headphone .... ".

Both sound clips had some kind of parody and full of profanity [all kinds of verbal abuse were there.]

I enjoyed it.
Whom so ever I forwarded that mail, they also enjoyed it.

I was cleaning my harddisk, I again listen them and they again put a smile across my face.

But now I am thinking, what kind of amusement people can get out of profanity and why ??

PS: just 4-5 yrs back, I used to use profanity in my speech as fullstop and comma.

This rings a bell, actually. I seem to recall being amused as well, but can't remember anything about these clips aside from that.

I think we find it amusing because of the way it's done. I don't think just a string of profanities alone is amusing, but when you're listening to someone who's just REALLY ANGRY at his boss (e.g.), you're hearing something that you can relate to and think "yeah, I've felt that way before...but I'd never have the guts to say it like that."

Of course, if your clips were just a bunch of 4-letter words with no context, I'm not sure what to say.

???

Of course there was context. But the fact is that context did not play any major role in amusement. It was the profanity that everyone was enjoying.

Talking about context in those clips is like saying that I like the story of XXX movie.

I'm not sure what to say.
Even I am not sure.

People enjoy profanity becoz it's anti-civilization.People adjusts much for society. And society is like a paperweight. It does'nt allow to fly.So i think usage of profanity is just a desire expressed to overcome the weight of paperweight.

I think using profanity is a sign of civilisation, not anti-civilisation.

It takes imagination to think of great swear words and phrases and to use them appropriately. Someone with a good grasp of their language can do wonders with curses.

To be able to swear and not be persecuted means you live in a free and tolerent society, though of course you don't have to like it (the profanity I mean).

It's also big and clever to swear loudly

Richard,

Walking naked will be the ultimate of civilization. If an entire community is so civilized, everyone can walk naked. What's the problom?.

So man moved to the original. He was naked at once. It's called return to the original.

What i hav said is,Humens loose much becoz of society unconciousely. Can u walk naked now?.No.But u can do after many more years.People become 'mature' enough to walk or be naked publicly.

But now humen are crippled a little for decipline. But many humen dont like this cripling. So there is a tendency to be naked or to be the original. The expression of that urge comes out sometimes like profanity. This is i think the reason of profanity.

That's all well and good in a nice warm country, but for some reason I can't see walking around naked catching on in rainy Britain. Besides, where would I stick my wallet?

I've always been under the impression that "fanny packs" are a base and degenerate invention; now I see that in fact they're part of the path to humanity's ultimate ascent to godliness. Who'da thunk?
