I have a link for "Sharpen Your Pencil" answers for the Head First Java book. However, it doesn't go past chapter 8. Is there an update out there some place that I'm not aware of?

My link = http://www.wickedlysmart.com/HeadFirst/HeadFirstJava/sharpens/SharpensOne.pdf

TIA.

"A Prescott (apj)",

You have previously been warned on one or more occasions regarding adjusting your display name to meet JavaRanch standards. This is not optional. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it prior to your next post.

Your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious. To be compliant, all you neeed to do is to drop the "(apj)" from your display name.

Be aware that accounts with invalid display names are disabled.

thanks,
bear

I'm sorry, but this is the FIRST time I've been notified about this. The Display name is in accordance with the naming policies when I first signed up, which is to give a good indication of what my name is. The "(apj)" is "added value", as this is usually my signatures with email correspondence.

I find this method of communication for your rules enforcement to be quite rude and uncalled for.

If it must, then the name will be changed when I return from vacation.

You must have missed the first notification here.

I find this method of communication for your rules enforcement to be quite rude and uncalled for.

I'd rather have contacted you via email, but you haven't registered with an email address. Without an email address, you would have had no means to know that PM was sent either.

If it must, then the name will be changed when I return from vacation

That would be very much appreciated, thanks!

Done.

BTW, my email address was included in my profile. So, why wasn't I contacted in that manner? I've been receiving all these emails regarding Java book deals.

Thanks for fixing that.

In your profile, there are the following options:

May JavaRanch send you occasional email notices such as our newletter and contest announcements?
Keep your email address viewable to others when you post notes?
Default Topic View
Allow members to send you private messages?
Be notified by email when someone sends you a private message?

It may be you have the first one set to "yes", thus receiving the notices, but the others set to "no"?

I am not positive that would do it, but I do know that when I pull up your profile, I do not see an email.

Now that that's all settled, back to your original question.

The Intro section of the book says that the answers to the "Sharpen Your Pencil" exercises are left out [of the book] on purpose.

For some of them, there is no right answer, and for the others, part of the learning experience for the Sharpen activities is for you to decide if and when your answers are right.

The ones you linked to on wickedlysmart.com are the authors suggested answers. The rest are open to a wide variety of possible solutions.
