Hi all, Ive have a degree in IT and Computing (in the UK) which had some very basic Java in it. Im looking to learn Java with a view to gaining a recognised qualification and moving into a job based on Java. Is the Sun Certified Java Programmer qualification my first step? Looking at the forums below there are lots of different areas to focus on. I am hoping to just teach myself through books and the web, is this realistic?

Thanks for the reply, Ive heard of some people getting jobs through experience and skills alone i.e. showing a portfolio of work, and that no qualifications are necessary. Surely it is better to get the SCJP qualification and move on from there (which is where btw?!).

I took care of them. you should be able to delete your own posts by clicking on the paper/pencil icon to edit, then checking the "delete post" box.
