what are instance variables... are they the same as normal methods...??

Sweety,
An instance method is probably what you think of as a normal method. The other type of method is a static method which you can call without having to create an object.

For example, MyClass.method() is static. And the following method is an instance method:
MyClass mine = new MyClass();
mine.instanceMethod();

Note that an instance variable is a field, not a method at all.

Instance methods are those invoked by object;
conventionally instance methods are refered to as normal methods;
